920 Creative and Unique Shop Name Ideas
When starting a new business, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is choosing your business name. Usually, the business name you choose will represent who you are, what you do, and what you’re trying to accomplish. Therefore, you must take your time to choose a business name you’re happy with.
Start an online store in minutes with Wix.com! NamesBee readers can start for free!
So, how do you develop a great name for your store? Start by thinking of words that describe your store and what you sell. For example, a store that sells pens and pencils would be called “Pens and Pencils”. But, it would also be called “Office Supplies” since it sells other office supplies.
Next, come up with a catchy, unique, and memorable name. Avoid names that sound generic or common, like “Pens and Pencils.” Instead, consider words that are out of the ordinary while still conveying what you do. For example, “The Pencil and Pen Shop” might sound boring, but it’s still unique.
Finally, check out other stores in your area. See what names they use and which ones you like. You can also check out other online businesses. They likely have great names that you can use for inspiration.
When you start a business, there are many things to worry about: the product, the target audience, and the name of the business. If you are setting up a new store, you need a name that customers can easily remember.
The key to choosing some unique store names is proper research. It seems like a minor task, but it’s one of the essential things to kick-start your business. Your store name is the foundation of your brand.

How to Name Your Store?
With so many established shops, you must create an experience that stands out from the crowd. You need to offer something unique to your customers.
10 Things to Keep In Mind When Naming Your Store
In this section, we’ll go through 10 actionable tips that you can follow to create the perfect names for your store. These tips will help you create names that convey innovative, effective, and easy-to-remember values for your customers. You can also use these tips to differentiate your store from others.
1. Analyze Your Existing Competitors
We need to know what our competition is doing before we start brainstorming name concepts. We also need to know if there are other stores like ours in the same area. These two steps will help us avoid making a name that sounds too similar to someone else’s.
Start by thinking about what your competition is doing. What are they selling? How do they sell it? What kind of products do they offer? Do they offer any special services? What are their prices? How do they price their products? Are they offering discounts? How do they advertise?
Here are some questions you need to ask when analyzing your existing competitors.
- You can find some trends and words that often occur in their store names.
- Are they using similar name types?
- What are some unusual names?
2. Position Your Store
You can either position your store horizontally or vertically. You can make sure your store fits into the market. You can make sure that your store stands out in the market.
You should always try to follow the style of your competitors. If you want to stand out, you need to be different. You can also use the same words as your competitors, but you shouldn’t copy them word for word.
Make sure you’re creating names that are different from each other and won’t get you into legal trouble.
To stand out in the marketplace, focus on using unique names and word styles. Make sure your shop name is different from other stores in the area.
I recommend this approach for all new stores. It will help you stand out from the competition and get noticed. You’ll also be able to attract customers who appreciate the uniqueness of your store.
3. Look for Inspiration Elsewhere
You should always try to keep your product unique. If you can’t stand out, you won’t get any customers. So, think about what kind of niche you want to target. What type of products does your potential customer need? Then, look at the competition. How do they differ from you? Do they offer something that you don’t? If not, why not?
Gardening is a great hobby for many people. There are many different types of plants and flowers you can grow and many ways to care for them.
You may notice a lot of companies using words like “seed,” “grow,” “green,” and “bloom“… Can any of these be used for your store?
Of course! The word “seed” can mean growth and prosperity. The “bloom” can also mean growth and prosperity. And the words “green” and “grow” can describe sustainability in many ways. You could use many other words to describe what you’re trying to create. Just pick something that feels right.
4. Understand Different Name Types
There are four main types of name:1. Nouns – nouns describe objects, places, actions, qualities, states of mind, etc.2. Verbs – verbs describe events, states, conditions, processes, etc.
- Brand names– These names describe the product or service offered by the company. This also includes acronyms, initials, founder names, and geographical names.
- Inventing names is a great way to get attention, but it doesn’t mean anything. Names like “Transacta” and “Vendira” are just made-up words. They don’t have real meaning. You can also
- Experientially named stores are designed to create an experience for customers. They are meant to give them something unique that distinguishes them from other stores. Experientially named stores also help to differentiate themselves from competitors.
- Evocative Names – These names represent the stores as metaphors instead of literal ways. They represent what the stores stand for instead of what they do. (ex. Red Fox Shop, Magnolia Market)
We will not go any further. This should give you a basic understanding of different name types.
5. Go Beyond Descriptive Names
In the previous point, we learned about different name types. We saw that a descriptive name is the simplest name type. Descriptive names are the easiest to remember but aren’t very catchy. There’s nothing wrong if you choosing a descriptive name, but it won’t help your business stand out in a crowded marketplace.
We should avoid using simple descriptive names for our stores. These names will help us blend in, but they won’t help us stand out. We need to create unique brand identities that will help us attract customers.
Instead, consider using unique words, phrases, or metaphors that could be used as keywords to describe your store. This will allow you to stand out from your competitors and attract customers.
6. Brainstorm Your Name Ideas
Getting a feel for what you like and dislike about the existing names is important. You may not even notice them at first glance, but they will help you figure out what kind of name you want. For example, if you have a love for cats, then maybe you should consider naming your store Cat’s Meow! If you have a passion for coffee, then perhaps you should consider naming your store Coffee Time!
My name ideas include words like commerce, cart, and intelligent, which suggests that you can expect a creative, modern approach from this store.
If you’re stuck on what to call your store, try our store name maker. Here are my store names after brainstorming:
7. Shortlist Your Ideas
When brainstorming, remove any names that might be hard to remember, spell or speak aloud. You may also want to consider removing any ideas that aren’t unique enough to stand out.
Make sure you keep names that are brandable (easy to remember), sound great (catchy), and communicate your store values (your mission statement).
Here’s a quick checklist to help narrow your list of potential names.
- Does the name sound good?
- Does the name sound easy to pronounce and read aloud?
- Are there any differences between the name and competitors?
- Does the name convey an appropriate meaning?
- Does the name avoid using overused words or clichés?
8. Get Some Feedback
You should have a list of at least six great store names, and you can start collecting feedback. Ask your target audience for feedback or other people in the industry.
Don’t listen to what others say about your idea. They will tell you what you want to hear, not what you need to hear. You need to test your idea yourself.
Ask yourself questions like:
- What comes to mind when you think of the word “Google”?
- How do you pronounce it?
You can start objectively analyzing the names you picked. Ask yourselves – Are these ideas still relevant to our store? Do they still represent our shop? If not, then why did we pick them? What else could we have done instead?
9. Check If It’s Available
At this point, having at least three great names on your list is a good idea.
If you are considering starting a business, you should check whether your name is available for trademark registration. If it isn’t, you will need to change your name before registering it. You can search online for registered trademarks in your country/state. This will help you avoid using a name that someone else owns.
Make sure your shop name is available before creating your store. A shop name is required when you create a website. You can choose any domain you like for your store name. You can also add your text to the generated store name.
10. Develop Your Brand
You should choose a name that will attract customers. If you already know what kind of product you want to sell, you can start brainstorming names immediately. But if you don’t have any ideas, you can always ask your friends or family members for suggestions.
In the online world, many different types of businesses sell products. Some businesses are classified as eCommerce sites, while others are classified as marketplaces. Both of these terms are used interchangeably in the online world. However, there are differences between the two. E-commerce sites are generally owned and operated by companies that sell physical products. Marketplaces are owned and operated by companies selling digital products.
